Karl Wright - Chief Information Officer

Karl began his technology career in the defence industry in South Africa and the UK developing and servicing missile systems.

In 1989 his team received the prestigious Queen's Award for ground-breaking work developing mobile satellite terminals which were first used commercially by CNN in their live news reporting of the first Gulf War. Karl was also involved in the world's first commercial test of an in-flight passenger telephone system.

From 1990 to 1996 Karl worked for Matra Marconi Space as a senior engineer on the IMMARSAT and KOREASAT satellite programmes.

Karl arrived in New Zealand in 1996 with his Kiwi wife, and completed an International MBA at Waikato University. In 1997 he joined Telecom New Zealand, and later Gen-i, before joining Yellow™ as Head of Technology in 2005.

Now Chief Information Officer, his major focus is conceiving the group's future technology architecture needs, with a particular emphasis on the protection of Yellow's most precious asset, its content.
